News! New 300 Series Kits Preview

The word that I got is they are trying to hold the price line on the laser cut kits as much as possible. The production run is much slower with laser cutting than die cutting, which must be compensated for in the pricing, but Guillow does not want to change their price point within the industry.

Gee! With an answer like that maybe I should have gone into politics. Anyway, I understand their intent, but I am just as much in the dark as you are about the actual price until they hit the catalog.

2 new kits will be added to our 300 series! Keep your eye out for kit No. 304 PC6 Porter & Kit No. 305 DHC-2 Beaver. These planes were chosen for their excellent flight characteristics and will make great balsa wood models ... flight testing have proven them to be excellent flyers. They will have approx. 24" wing span, contain precise laser cut parts and are designed to be flown rubber powered or converted over to RC park flyers

I for one do not have an issue paying more for a Guillows kit if it is laser cut and the wood quality is good. With the increased pricing, I will not hesitate to request replacement wood if the wood in the kit is not up to par.

i agree. there are so many little things besides laser cutting that would make these kits so much better. i would even pay more if some of these little things were updated and improved, even if the kit were not laser cut.

I hope they bring back the WW I series, I just got a Fokker D.8, but could get all the kits easier and cheaper if they were in production.

Yes. My favorite Guillow kits are the WWI kits, too bad they really only have 4 in the 200 series and 1 in the 800 series. I have left to build the DR1 and the Sopwith and then I will have to find some more WWI kits to build. "Back in the day" Guillow had a lot of WWI kits. I really believe these kits would sell even in this economy. There are a lot of model builders like us out there who would buy them.

Say guys...here's a cool pix of that sharp ugly duckling type turbo prop plane from Air America also used in that movie. It's a turbo prop with some quite remarkable features, especially on very short runways. Man, I can't wait for Guillows to come out with it's version. The one in the photo has a Turbomeca Astazou or a Garrett TPE331 engine. The model in the kit is of a later version with a Pratt and Whitney PT-6A. To match the Air America version you will have to make your own nose and leave off the wing tip extensions. The model flies well with or without the wing tip extensions.
