i have finished the fuse, minus a couple little things like the balsa that the lock down wire goes into for the moveable tail gear. i have the canopy slide nice and pretty here with the stopers.



how straight the tail gear is-



and i have modified all the parts for the wing/moveable flaps, ailerons, and of course the retractable landing gears minus a couple that are not in the picture.



im impressed with how well i am doing at this... for my first fully functional display model and all... i usually dont modify much at all.

not happy with how inaccurate the parts are but ill just have to deal with it. here i have those vinal parts in for the retracts, and all of the ribs in. anyone else hate the leading edges on these? next ill add those "M" parts for the moveable flaps and ailerons.

knew it was something like that... of course i never even pay attention to the spelling of the materials like that... just know what it is, where to find it, and how to put it together.

Why does everyone hate the leading edge?

the combination of tapering and shaping the leading edge blanks is problematic without a couple of key tools - like an edge sander for one..

otherwise its all done on the built up wing and the ribs get thrashed

more than one of my past works was terminated mid wing...

scigs- one of the major things i always hated about the leading edges is that i have never gotten good wood for the sticks they are made of. it makes it much harder to cut neatly, sand to shape etc. with bad wood. at least we should receive decent wood for the jobl.

i think that the way they have it planed is just fine. i really dont think there are many better ways.

as heywooood said, it is also tricky to sand to the right shape. i usually take care of this with my trusty sanding block, but it helps to have fancy sanding aids. like i said, this isnt easy with poor quality wood.

because its a fully functinal display. the landing gear will retract, and tail gear. plus a sliding canopy. its a "hands on" model. it will seem more realistic.

its my first fully functional display model, and im learning more and more about them. i realize that if you dont get at all how a mechanism works, wait until after you have made all the mods to the parts. after that you have a much better idea of how it works.
