I build this 400 series blow up cheaper than the kit is new off the shelf at the LHS... MSRP on this kit is now $40.99... The plywood for the big plane is only $17...

It's basically one sheet of 1/4 pine plywood, and a bunch of yellow glue and screws, and a bed sheet, and some lacquer, and some latex paint.

No really!

It's all in the details now. Touch up paint, til I die... Exhaust stacks, canopy lines, wheels and tires, insignia, and nose art...

It's already 100 degrees out there this morning... whew!

AHA...just noticed the canopy is painted...HMMMM...where did "WE" come up with that brillant idea? Sure beats trying to detail the cockpit!!

I just paint the windows white, and lettem use their imagination...

These are about 1/6th scale, so cockpit details would be fun... On the bi-planes they sometimes give you the card stock, which can be scanned and blown to the proper size to fit, but on these low wing birds paint will do...

WOW thats a really nice job! how do u get it so that the support struts and other internal pieces dont show through the tissue?

It's not tissue, but 100% Cotton Muslin Fabric. As such, it hides alot of the structural stuff. Then, on this plane I used 2 coats of gray latex primer paint over the whole plane. That did a bunch more to hide the "starved horse" look of stick and tissue construction. Then 2 coats of green latex color on the top of the aircraft, then 2 coats of the brown... Went thru some paint on this baby, eh?

Look at the build fotos, and you'll see the fabric installation. Howard, (kittyfritters) suggested a couple of yars ago that I buy a book on fabric for real planes, so I did. Made me dangerous.
