Rufe/Zero build

Postby scigs30 » Sun Dec 20, 2009 12:48 pm

I started on my Zero build yesterday before attending a X-Mas party. I would like to make the Rufe, but the wood is too heavy. I have tried to order some replacement wood for a few of my kits, but have never heard back from Guillows Customer service  ....Oh well I just started the build anyway. So far the fuselage weighs in at 6 grams.

I have the structure for the Zero built and weight without landing gear is 20 grams. Added 1 inch dihedral and will move the motor mount forward.

Scigs, as usual that looks fantastic! Is that Esaki tissue, or the kit tissue?

I also wanted to ask you before - I am running out of Esaki and was thinking of saving some money by buying a large batch of domestic tissue. Exact colours are not that important for me as I tend to paint using thin coats with my airbrush, although I have been thinking I might get away with even lighter coats of paint if I used a coloured tissue close to the final shade as a base.

Anyway, you seem to have a lot of experience with the different kinds. How would you compare Pecks, Guillows and Easy Built domestic tissue? I believe you have used all three in your builds posted on this and other sites. I include Guillows as it is the only one of the three that I have actually used.

I grew up on Peck and Guillows tissue, but have been using Easy Built just because of all the colors. All three tissues are the same as far as I am concerned. And yes the Zero is covered with Esaki.

Thanks! I think I'll give the Peck a go as I was going to order other stuff from a shop that also sell Peck tissue.

Cheers,

I will say you do a great job on these. Your last one the Zero was my first. I was seven. My next was a P-40 after that. I cant wait to what your next one looks like. I picked up a few things just from your pic's that you have posted. Thanks
