New Build - Guillow's B25 Mitchell

It is for display - I only build hangar queens and shelf sitters. This kit was designed for U-Control or display and it is heavy even if built to plan for tissue covering. Twin .049 engines would have made it screw the operator into the ground. I only build display models having lost every single flier I built to either severe crash damage or other means within a few days of completion - so I gave that up.

All mine are flyers, (except for those select few, and I mean FEW hanger queens). They are all several years old, and haven't incurred any damage that can be noticed. Not to brag or anything, because those few hanger queens were those that were almost destroyed in crashes but lovingly restored back to their proper place and will remain there in static condition. However, my 400 series Mustang and Focke Wulf, and my 500 series Me109 have all been flying for years and have no damage. I am amazed myself nothing catastrophic has happened. How heavy is the Mitchell? I was planning on doing one with rubber power.

the Mitchell out of the box and built to spec. would not be heavy for RB power. I imagine you would leave the rear section of each nacelle open and string the rubber motors to hooks installed in the horizontal stabilizer (similar to the way Dumas has set up their Widgeon)...?
The real challenge is incorporating all of the plastic details - I would instead omit most of them and probably use the solid nose (mounted with magnets) omit the top turret, maybe the waist gun ports, and so on.
You would need to lighten a lot of the balsa parts and since this one is mainly a display model it uses and you are supplied with 3/32" stringers for the construction. You might want to use 1/16" instead ?

Thanks for the advice. All the little tips, especially about the stringers is very helpful. The nacelles would definitely have to open on the rear for the motors. I would intend on having as many plastic parts as possible, just because I like to have a detailed plane. Anyway, that build is a little ways off in the future. Please keep us update with pics as to progress. I can't wait to see her when finished! Best of luck!

here meanwhile is a small update on the Mitchell bomber..




I have framed both wings and begun the infill process on the port wing.
I have painted the fuselage just where the glazing is with the interior green paint...so it isn't pretty to look at yet
