WESTFAC VI photos are on the website

Postby tom arnold » Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:43 pm

We have a ton of raw photos up on the WESTFAC website to enjoy. Many thanks to the contestants who sent them it too. You will also find links to various sites that hold photos too. By right-clicking on the photos and selecting "open in a new tab" you can enlarge the photos to get a close look at the planes and festivities. We will be posting the complete scoring and flights of the planes in a few days, so keep checking back.

Just as a note, most photos are taken with telephoto lens and it makes those power lines seem right over the field but it is an illusion----they are a long ways away. The fields we had access to covered over a 150 acres.

There were a number of Guillow's kits flown at the contest in both competition and fun flying. The most popular Guillow's kits were the FW-190, Me-109, T-28 Trojan, A-1 Skyraider. Some were built straight from the kit but the better flying ones had the wood replaced with lighter wood and some lightening mods made (eliminating some wing ribs, hollowing out the fuselage formers, thinning down the stab and rudder edges, moving the motor peg forward a bay, airbrushed finish or just colored tissue) All used lubricated motors, winding stooges, and Tan II rubber for the motors. Props were usually Peck props with freewheeling devices on them. One of the WESTFAC sponsors was Mitch, who is a regular contributor here.
