The rain has slowed down, so we were able to make a few test flights with the P-40. Our wet and overcast backyard flying field this afternoon.

Nearly dusk this afternoon the P-40 flying on a 30 foot pole/line combination.

Our next 'Zip' profile swinger. Based on the Comet Stick n tish B-26.

The above image is cleaned up a bit and the location lines for the wing, horizontal tail and nacelle locations drawn in. This modified image will be printed to cardstock and used for cutting and building patterns for the profile B-26.

We printed the 2nd image in the previous post to a piece of legal sized manila folder that was cut to the size of legal size sheet. This was cut up into card patterns that will be used to cut balsa parts for the B-26.

Another good windy weather flier is this little profile Yak 15. It has a 14 inch wing span and even though being flown on a combined pole/line length of 30 feet it punches thru the wind quite well.

The story of the profile Yak 15 begins in late September of 2010. It was built in the style of the Avia C-10 and P-40 profile models, and was the prototype of the removable sliding wing used on the P-40

We started with a Yak 15 three view and enlarged part of it and copied it to card stock. The line and numbers on the card stock are our 'building instructions' :wink:

The card stock was cut into patterns for cutting the fuselage and tail parts. The wing pattern was traced to a piece of paper and a simple wing plan was drawn up.

Fuselage and tail glued up. Wing framed. Note the sliding platform with thick ribs that ties the two wing halves together and is the key element of the sliding wing scheme.

We had white water between the houses...

Just past the black mailbox in the center of the picture is our neighbor's driveway which is draining our and their backyards. The black things in the water farther down the street are garbage cans. Ours is about where the next two mailboxes past the neighbors box are.

However, today was much nicer. Chilly in the morning but warmer with beautiful blue sky in the afternoon. So we got in a few good flights with the profile P-40 and Yak-15.

Just so you guys know:

Flyer and I live in roughly the same area here on the upper Texas Gulf Coast, and we're used to the rain creating very short duration floods like this all the time. Except... We've been experiencing a year long bad drought here. A real lawn killer. So, we're actually bragging about the giant puddles...

Oh, and I can't wait to see the bomber fly...

I've thought the Yak-15 and Yak-23 would make interesting subjects. I don't usually build as simply as you (B-52 and Vampire cat gliders aside.), and I thought that either of the Yaks might make interesting subjects for rubber powered ducted fans. I plan to use a gear driven fan, toward the nose, with the rubber motor extending the length of the tail boom, building as light as I can with about a 30 inch wing span.

Yes, Bill, the rain puddles were a bit sparse last year.

Howard, your plan for a rubber powered ducted fan version of the Yak 15/23 is interesting and would be quite an accomplishment. It would an impressive sight to see it fly.
