How many kits in the closet or storage?

Ask other modelers for a little help / knowledge ?

Postby dbcisco » Thu Apr 23, 2009 9:21 pm

I am only doing WWI models so I am always looking for the discontinued kits esp. if they are just plans and plastic. They are cheaper that way (not collectible) and I don't have to feel guilty for opening a collectible.
A bumblebee isn't supposed to fly but does.
My plane is supposed to fly but doesn't.
Balances out doesn't it : )

I'm not much into collecting because i figure they were meant to fly not stay in a box ? thats like people have nice classic cars and store them but i can't see that i would rather drive it because thats what they were meant for...lol

I am not a collector per se since I plan on building all my kits. I have most of the Freeflight OOP Sterling kits, Comet Kits, Peck Polymers and Guillows. My goal is to build 4 to 6 a year. Somewhere in there I would like to build a 1/4 scale RC Sig Piper Cub......Where does the time go?

I built the Sig 1/4 scale clipped wing Cub back in the mid 80's. It is a real nice kit!!! Sig still produces one of the best R/C scale kits on the market today, IMO.

I have 2 series 900 kits, the Chipmunk and the Trojan. Also a Comet Porterfield 65 and an EB Fokker D7.
My issue is time and running out of space for built planes.

I have around 20- 30 aircrafts mostly rc controlled.
5 of them iare Guillows.
I have built one of the Guillows kits, the 400 series Me 109.
The Me is waiting for it`s maiden flight and a big scale ju87 is next to be built, on the ju87 i`m going to use my own balsa.

Late to the game as usual. Just got on this forum. Last time l counted my kits l had 185 on the shelf. Have since sold some, gave some to my flying buddy. Not sure of exact count now though. Don't ask how many plans l have.

In a previous post I noted that I took inventory of my kits and had 85 kits of which 17 were Guillow's kits. However, they do multiply even when you don't try to find more and I now have 91 kits of which 19 are Guillow's kits. I have 4 of the Guillow's kits partially built. One is a kit bash of a 300 series Piper Cub into an L-4. Unfortunately, the Arrow that I had partially built succumbed to a garage accident. However, I do have another one in box. I have my own designs but I had better start including these other kits in my building time. Men in my family usually live to be 100 and I'm 81.

I'm sorry to hear about your partially built Arrow being destroyed.I would have liked to
see it.The Arrow is a sharp looking Guillow's classic.
